Yayoi Kusama works primarily in sculpture and installation, but is also active in painting, performance, film, fashion, poetry and fiction. She gained considerable recognition in New York in the 1950s and 1960s and exhibited with many influential artists such as Claes Oldenburg, Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns, before returning to Japan in 1973. She is considered to have anticipated many aspects of the Pop, Minimalism and Post-Minimalism movements. Kusama has an obsessive interest in proliferating patterns and repetitive shapes. Nets-Infinity (TWOS) is among her best known "net paintings," defined as abstract works with circular and repetitive patterns.
